Top 5 Tips For Looking After Your Jewellery
If you were lucky enough to be gifted some jewellery at Christmas (maybe even an Ava Jane piece!) we would like to give you a few tips on how to care for and clean your jewellery to keep it shining all day long! Tarnishing of silver is a natural process but it is easily removed.
Avoid Moisture!
Try to keep your jewellery dry and take it off before you shower or wash your hands (just don’t leave it on the sink when you are out and about!). Silver will naturally tarnish with moisture in the air so try and store your jewellery in a jewellery box and not in the bathroom or on a tray.
Keep Out of Direct Sunlight.
Store your jewellery away from sunlight particularly if they have gemstones. The heat from the sun can change the colour of some gemstones!
Give it a wipe.
Now I know I said to avoid moisture but if a piece is tarnished one way to remove it is to give the piece a gentle wash with warm water, a mild shampoo and a very soft toothbrush. Just be sure to rinse it well and dry off thoroughly. You can also use a polishing cloth made for jewellery cleaning. Just be sure to use the right cloth to match the metal type (Different cloths are available for silver and gold). If you have an Ava Jane piece you will have gotten a cloth with your order.
No More Tangles.
Fasten your chains before placing them in their jewellery boxes to avoid tangles.
Separate Your Metals.
It is recommended to store different metals separately. Metals can interact with each other and speed up the tarnishing process.
We hope these tips are helpful. Remember fine metals last a lifetime and just need a little TLC every now and again.
Please note these tips are suitable for fine metals of silver and gold and not any piece that is plated.
