Our Sustainability Choices

Here at Ava Jane Jewellery we are doing all we can to make sustainable and ethical choices in all areas of the business. We make eco conscious choices in our packaging, materials and tools so you can be safe in the knowledge that your purchases are made with not just love for each other but for the earth too.

Here are some ways we strive to make the right choices:

Packaging

We all know that excess and non recyclable packaging can come with buying new things, especially online. Your Ava Jane Jewellery comes in a pretty but sturdy cardboard jewellery box that you can use forever to protect your piece. The material is FSC Certified* and the glue is water based. The foam insert is made from PU foam which is made from Tall oil, which is a by-product from paper production. The tissue paper we use is also FSC Certified. Our cotton gift bags are made from organic cotton and are marked as eco friendly.

Your piece will come posted in a handy sized cardboard box that is recyclable. The packaging tape we use is also paper and can be recycled. Even our little freebies that come with your purchase are fairtrade and recyclable.

Materials

We use a mixture of fine metals in our pieces and we use recycled metals. By using fine metals your pieces will last a lifetime and beyond. We also use metal clay which is made from recycled sterling silver and any dried pieces of clay can be reused and made into new clay!

We buy our gemstones from a trusted source that ensures the gems are mined ethically with fair pay and conditions for those working in the mines. It is so important to know where your gems are coming from as unfortunately many miners work in substandard conditions. Usually if a gemstone is priced cheaply there is a reason for that!

Tools and Workshop

When purchasing tools we buy quality that will last a lifetime. Many of our tools are traditional, wooden silversmith tools rather than newer plastic versions. We also try and buy local where we can to support local businesses and to cut down on air miles.

Like anything we can all only do our best. We hope that by making sustainable choices it will make it easier for you as a customer to shop ethically.
